Worship Don’t Whine.

Worship do not whine.

The story of the children of Israel is so striking and super stunning. They were a people led by God, they saw and heard God. Imagine the privilege of eating manna, the food only angels ate. The wonder of not having to worry about clothes, shoes, food or any life’s necessities. They were all provided by God.

But, there was a ‘but’ in their lives, they were accomplished whiners, awesome complainers. Their lives characterized ignorance an awesome generation with spiritual amnesia.

Other nations around them knew of their ‘terrible God’. They had heard how he humbled Pharaoh, tore down the Great Jericho walls, even parted the red sea for this complainants. Who could have had a more terrific God like them.

It was as if, their eyes were covered. Why else could they turn their backs on their God at the sight of any little challenge. The amnesia sunk deep into their souls. Gnawing into their very flesh.

“Hey! Moses! Where’s the beef

There’s no water, I’m gonna die of thirst

You’re not competent, who made you our ruler?”

Their complaints were not edged on having low blood sugar or grumbling because of a terrible headache. Faithlessness was their problem.

What exactly then, does it mean to whine?

According to dictionary.com. Whining means to utter a low, usually nasal, complaining cry or sound, as from uneasiness, discontent, peevishness, etc. Also, according to urban dictionary, Whining is complaining when the complaining is of no use.

We must first of all realize that whining, complaining or grumbling are ultimately not our hearts response to the circumstances but to God himself.

We have to pluck ourselves from the group of whiners and attach ourselves to the company of worshippers because whining yields no fruit, It only pours God’s wrath out on us.

As much as we would love to complain to God, let’s put in all our energy on worshiping him. It is in worshiping him the solution to the situations in our lives is gotten.

We have to guard ourselves from Spiritual amnesia, it is much more worse than any cancer on this planet. It is so deadly, it threatens our joy and our faith. It penetrates the heart and rots it to the core from within.

We can provide an antidote to this raging disease by simply remembering.

  • Remember God’s faithfulness to you in the past. Have a journal where you write down your prayer request and the answers, create a box for your testimonies where you can always look at when you feel down or threatened to complain.

Take a moment and look back at God’s fingerprints all over your life

Design your room with lovely promises that you can fall back on when the temptation to whine comes in

Turn to worship, the biggest of mountains are crushed on the wings of worship.

Worship profits more than whining.

Focus on Christ and not the situation.

Hang around with people of like faith that can uplift you in the place of prayers.

  • Remember that venting never makes anything better
  • Renew your mind to think differently
  • Drink from the ocean of God’s word
  • Listen to inspiring, soul lifting gospel music
  • Restrain what comes from your mouth
  • Resolve to be grateful

  • Self Pity

The young preacher Oswald Chambers said:
“No sin is worse than the sin of self-pity, because it removes God from the throne of our lives, replacing Him with our own self interests. It causes us to open our mouths only to complain, and we simply become spiritual sponges – always absorbing, never giving, and never being satisfied. And there is nothing lovely or generous about our lives.”
