The Hymn Challenge

Season Two: Day 1

Fire! Fire! Fire! 🔥 🔥

Written by Emmanuel Salt Ashibuogwu

As I walked into Jebba street by Osholake, somewhere in Ebute Metta East, Lagos, I stopped at Iya Bose’s shed to buy roasted plantain (bolly)

“How much bolly do you want” Iya Bose asked me.

“Give me #150 own” I said in pidgin English.

“Fire! Fire! Fire 🔥 🔥” I could hear everyone around me shout.

The sky was painted blue – back as nearly the whole area of Ebute was gutted in fire!

“What is happening over there” I asked, as I nodded towards the direction of the fire.

“It is Ebute now” she explained, suggesting that it was nothing more than a burning of saw dust and wood, as the area is very popular for its sawmill.

As I collected my change, I thanked her and left, moving further north to school.

The moment I entered the school compound, the timekeeper rang the bell, and the whole place became extra rowdy, not just because of the fact that the school activities were over for the day, but because the students were so anxious to see the blue-black sky painted by fumes emanating from the fire.

At this time, I was about preparing for the fellowship, but the flames were extremely high and I heard that the school’s primary school annex located on the other end of Ebute was gradually becoming extremely choky for the students.

Immediately, I and some teachers ran over to the primary school annex to bring the students safely to the school’s headquarters.

It all seemed like a joke until one, two, ten, fifty, see about an hundred or more wooden structures were gutted down by the fire.

Thank God there were some wooden houses close to the school, so we were able to supply water in large quantities to the next building till we gradually quenched the fire.

Beloved, I tell you, it is God that saved us, if not we would have experienced what no one likes to experience.

My heart prays for all those who lost their houses and life savings in the fire.
Who knows why such a thing happened today?

Nevertheless, the Holy Spirit reminded me of a prayer meeting with some of my friends online (The Watchmen 🔥) in which we were led by the Holy Spirit to cancel the spirit of fire explosions in the country.

Beloved, the Lord reminded me of that prophetic prayer session. I’m grateful to God that I prayed with all my heart.

So, I challenge you to join the train of prayer warriors, who like the men of Issachar know how to pray ahead, so that they and the people related to them would not become a prey!

So, the hymn challenge today has definitely taken a different turn, I mean, the hymn I initially planned to sing was related to evangelism, but beloved all I can sing right now is “Praise the Lord, Praise the Lord”

Enjoy the lyrics and the video with me. 🔥

TO GOD BE THE GLORY
1. To God be the glory, great things He hath done,
So loved He the world that He gave us His Son,
Who yielded His life an atonement for sin,
And opened the Life Gate that all may go in.

Chorus
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
Let the earth hear His voice,
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
Let the people rejoice!
O come to the Father through Jesus the Son,
And give Him the glory, great things He hath done.

2. O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood,
To every believer the promise of God;
The vilest offender who truly believes,
That moment from Jesus a pardon receives.

3. Great things He hath taught us, great things He hath done,
And great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son;
But purer, and higher, and greater will be
Our wonder, our transport when Jesus we see.

I therefore challenge Ebiesuwa Oluwadamilare to share his story tomorrow.

Shalom!
